Please Read: There has been a couple of instances where people living on Okinawa have used maps posted on this site to go exploring. It is very important to realize that most of these battle sites still have VERY ACTIVE Unexploded Ordinance(UXO). If you choose to go exploring please do your own research on identifying UXO's.

Massive amounts of ammunition was expelled during the battle, and is still very active!
If you find one DON’T touch it, and report them immediately!

“Despite the fact that 27,226 rounds of five-inch or larger caliber were fired in seven days of preliminary bombardment, losses to the deeply dug-in Japanese were slight. Damage to surface installations was extensive, however, especially in the vicinity of the airfields. By midafternoon of 31 March, Admiral Blandy had evaluated the effect of the air and NGF bombardment and could report that "the preparation was sufficient for a successful landing."
